Recorder

The recorder is a popular instrument used in elementary education programs today but dates back as far as the middle ages. It remained an distinguished instrument throughout the renaissance period, being described as clear and sweet like the sound of birds for its ability to create wide dynamics and articulations. Learning the recorder is a vital beginning to any elementary music student's repertoire as it prepares them for learning more complex wind instruments in middle school. Participating in the recorder ensemble will also deepen their understanding of musical concepts and knowledge.  The UES Recorder Ensemble meets once a week on Friday mornings from 7:30-8:15 am. Students are given a recorder karate packet at the first meeting and once practiced can perform each song to earn their recorder karate belts! Students who prepare and demonstrate mastery of selected performance songs will be asked to perform at the annual spring music showcase.

Piano

Umatilla Elementary School's Performing Arts Program currently holds two sessions for Piano. The first session is Wednesday mornings from 7:30-8:15 am and the second session is held on Friday afternoons from 3:30-4:30 pm. Piano is available to students in grades three through five and is an excellent chance to learn the basics of the piano. This class is for beginners ONLY, but if your student is an intermediate piano player and looking for a new private teacher, please contact Mrs. Paul via email for professional references.
